Quoted from Tom Cole of ARC on 4cycle.com with concerns of the new BSFW1 AKRA legal Steel flywheel
"I have taken two of these steel flywheels apart. I have also run several of them, and dyno'd 4 of them and spun two to over 8000 RPM for extended periods on the dyno. The lowest reported RPM failure was 12,000 RPM and that was a flywheel with previous damage incurred from a coil collision. An undamaged flywheel was spun to 14000 RPM and did not fail. I have posted my balance testing results, which are accurate and have been validated by others. They were designed for one purpose only, to put the safety concerns surrounding the cast iron stock flywheel to rest IN THE AKRA BOX STOCK CLASS. They meet that purpose BY A LONG SHOT and any expectation beyond that is unwarranted. Any other purpose should use an SFI certified billet flywheel."

But SIRA doesn't comply with the AKRA BOX STOCK CLASS rules. They REQUIRE the smaller pipe and resonator...to try to keep rpms under a certian level.
Most people in this class using your rules, are in the BP class which requires the aluminum FW.
Just can't understand why it was ruled against, as opposed to being the racer's choice...even with a 5# weight penalty for percieved performance gains.....

I have felt all along that the flywheel should have been left stock. I personally have seen only 1 fly apart, it had been subjected to 64 plus rpm for a whole season @ Newcastle and the owner was not known for good maintenance. The aluminum flywheel will have a big advantage that 5 lbs will not even out. Lets all save our money. I run the long pip and seldom do I need to turn my engines over 6,0 and have won and run up front with them. the aluminum flywheel will spool up quicker, allow less gear and run circle's around a stock flywheel.

OK I am hearing that we have done a 180 and the aluminum flywheel is now legal? I don't care at this point lets just get something final so we all can get ready! Can some one respond?
