NO billet fly wheel this year..optional...whenever they come out the the STEEL one..NOT aluminum...Any stage or size pipe with stock RLV muffler..NO Loop pipes..follow AKRA rules and you will be good to go.

SO what happens if all three of our clones show up with aluminum flywheels?
I will NOT buy a steel one because it is NOT SFI certified.

No thanks, I'm not swapping flywheels...
All 3 other race tracks/series here in Indiana either mandate or allow the SFI rated aluminum one....so we bought 3 for all our engines.
I'll take a 5# penalty, but won't swap....

An aluminum flywheel costs more than I paid for my motor, what happened to a low cost simple class? I do not think aluminum flywheels are keeping with the spirit and intent of this class.

I understand the sentiment...but we're being told this is a safety issue. No, I personally haven't seen a stock one come apart....but I sure as heck don't want to be around one when it does.
New Castle is mandating the aluminum FW...Whiteland is recomending it...IKS is too... Why you ask? Because it has an SFI certification...the steel one, just now arriving, will not. They all point to insurance requirements. Who insures SIRA? Have they been asked about this?
My helmet cost 3 times what my engine did...but I sure won't run with a cheaper one...already went to the hospital with a cheap helmet. Got a $10 head? Use a $10 helmet.

For the past three years people have been running clones with no problem.....
Who cares what IKS is doing (they do not carry any credibality here)
This class is taking off pretty good I would hate to ruin it by copying others mistakes.

It's about not being the only series around here that doesn't at least allow the aluminum FW...
It's all fun until someone gets hurt.

Doug, your right it is all fun until someone is hurt, but that applies to anything in racing. Last year we had people loosing wheels, but we are not mandating tethers.
Flat heads have ran cast iron wheels for years and they have had issues to. Actually I have seen 2 of them explode in the 30 years I have been kart racing and WKA still requires the cast wheel. The reason people want you to run the Al wheel is because the engine builders and kart shops are loosing sales and this is a way for them to make some cash back on an engine that is cheap. Next will be allowing porting and billet rods and so on. The Clone will be $1500 like a flat head and karting will drop again.
I'm all for safety. If anything should be mandated it should be better helmets, rib vests for all drivers and more than a foam ring around your neck!

So does SIRA not allow the aluminum FW at all then?

Doug, to answer your question... for 2012 SIRA does not allow the aluminum flywheel in any of the 4 clone adult classes and the jr clone class....any engine with this part would be subject to DQ..... hope that clarifies things for you... this was voted on at the rules meeting and revisited and confirmed at our directors meeting recently....
