My son raced kid karts last year and we are wanting to maybe try SIRA out this year. I have two questions. I saw clutches aren't blueprinted, does this go for engine, too, or are blueprinted engines allowed? Also I saw no points for kid karts. Does this mean it is participation only? Or just no season points? We would like to see point standings and podiums for sure!

Just wanted to let ya know that we don't do points for kid karts and they all get participation trophies but we do post results and take pictures to post of all kid kart and trophy winners...Yes we do allow blueprinted kid kart motors but do not allow blueprinted clutches..per the rulebook of course..last year my son ran all season and even though we didn't have points he was voted junior driver of the year so you are eligible for special year end awards like most improved, etc. If you have never ran with us I suggest you give it a try there is nothing else like it in karting.

I want to get my son involved in karting to give him a sport were he's on a level playing field. You see he was born with nerve damage in his right arm so he doesn't have full strength in his right arm so it makes playing ball and stick sports difficult for him. My problem is I know nothing about karting, i.e. setting a kart up, where to get one and how much should i spend on a limited budget. I sure could use some advice.

My suggestion is to come to one of our next events and talk to some of the racers. All the officers of SIRA would gladly get you pointed in the right direction. You can also contact me on here or at my contact information on the website. A limited budget is not a problem if you know when and where to look and what you are looking for. Age and ability have alot to do with what you start with. Mike Hornyak
